’Wild Sea’ uses cables and half-brioche stitches to form a fascinating wave pattern that evokes gusts of wind whipping the surface of ocean waters. Shown here in the West Wool color ‘Pebble,’ this shawl complements its intricate decorative panel with the soothing regularity of garter stitch.

Although the cables create a natural wave along one edge, you can block this edge straight if you prefer. Whether you choose a rustic or refined fiber, your shawl will be a richly textured and elegant accessory.

The shawl has an asymmetrical shape with a built-in I-cord edge and is worked flat from the right tip to the left edge. The pattern is fully written out with stitch counts and charted until the first repeat of adding garter stitches to the shawl is done.

Yarn 

4 skeins West Wool (10% Texel-90% Falkland Merino, 100 gr-250yds/230m).
Sample yardage, 902yds/825m in color Pebble.
Or any DK yarn: approx. 902-1006yds (825-920m).

Materials 

24” (minimum 60 cm) circular or straight needles. 
US 8 (5.0 mm) for border. 
US 9 (5.5 mm) for body.
Cable needle, stitch markers, tapestry needle.

Gauge - blocked 4" (10 cm) 

Half-brioche/cable pattern, 20 stitches x 28 rows. 
Garter stitch, 15 stitches x 28 rows.
Gauge is not crucial at all, but will affect final size and yardage.

Finished dimensions 

Approx. 79” (200 cm) wingspan along top edge x 27.5“ (70 cm) width.
